Under RSA 310-A:189-b, certification has been required for persons engaged in residential mold assessment since 1 January 2016, through third-party certification accredited by ANSI, CESB, NCCA or an equivalent ISO-compliant body.
Assessment is defined broadly: inspecting or surveying a dwelling to report on the presence or evaluation of mold, writing a remediation protocol, or collecting a sample for analysis. Note what is not covered. The removal itself carries no state credential, and a professional hired mainly for other work is exempt. So in New Hampshire the inspection is regulated and the remediation is not, which is the reverse of what most homeowners assume.
